Hellverine #1 (2024) launches Marvel's first ongoing solo series featuring Hellverine, the demonic fusion of Akihiro (Daken) and the demon Bagra-ghul. Written by Benjamin Percy with art by Julius Ohta, the series continues the Hellverine concept introduced in Wolverine and Ghost Rider.
The dramatic Ryan Stegman cover depicts Hellverine in the middle of a brutal, supernatural battle. His skeletal face and blazing skull are engulfed in enormous orange and yellow flames, while he raises one fist and fights a large monstrous opponent. Hellfire streams across the composition in sweeping arcs, creating a sense of speed and violent movement.
The artwork uses a predominantly cream, orange, yellow, brown, and black palette, with radiating lines behind Hellverine emphasizing the explosive force of the scene. The oversized black HELLVERINE logo dominates the upper portion of the cover, while the lower section identifies Percy, Ohta, and D'Armata and includes the Bonus Digital Edition branding.
The story, titled “Resurrection,” centers on the return of Hellverine and the supernatural forces surrounding him. Marvel's synopsis explains that the demon Bagra-ghul previously possessed Wolverine; it has now resurrected Akihiro, forcing the two to exist together as Hellverine.
