War of the Realms #1 — John Tyler Christopher Variant Cover (2019)

War of the Realms #1 is the opening chapter of Marvel's six-issue 2019 crossover event, written by Jason Aaron with artwork by Russell Dauterman and colors by Matthew Wilson. The main story is titled “The War of the Realms, Chapter One: The Last Realm Standing.”

The cover features Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) in her blue, red and gold costume at the center of a chaotic battle, with Iron Man (Tony Stark) visible behind her. A fiery Fire Demon dominates the upper background while a massive Frost Giant fills the right foreground. Bright blue-white streaks and explosive energy cut through the predominantly red and orange battlefield.

The issue begins the full-scale invasion of Midgard/Earth by Malekith and his forces after the other Ten Realms have fallen. As New York City becomes a battlefield, Earth's heroes and Asgardian allies are forced to confront an army that includes Frost Giants, Fire Demons and other forces from the realms.
